Bee pollen consists of small, colourful granules that bees collect from flowers. It tastes slightly sweet, floral and sometimes a little tangy – depending on which plants are in bloom. At breakfast it adds colour and a pleasant crunch.
1. Muesli or porridge topping
Prepare oats or porridge as usual and let them cool briefly. Top with fresh fruit, a few chopped hazelnuts and 1 tsp bee pollen. Add the pollen last so it stays crunchy.
2. Smoothie bowl
For 1 serving: 1 frozen banana, 100 g berries (fresh or frozen), 100 ml milk or plant-based drink.
- Blend everything until creamy – it should be thicker than a regular smoothie.
- Pour into a bowl.
- Garnish with pieces of fruit, seeds or nuts and 1 tsp bee pollen.
3. Honey yoghurt with pollen
Stir 150 g plain yoghurt with 1 tsp acacia honey and sprinkle with a few walnut pieces and 1 tsp bee pollen. Ready in a minute – also great as a sweet afternoon snack.
Good to know
- Soft rather than crunchy? Soak the pollen in a tablespoon of water, juice or yoghurt for 10–15 minutes.
- Don't heat it: Use pollen cold or lukewarm only – don't cook or bake it.
- Storage: Keep tightly closed in a cool, dry and dark place.
- Allergy note: Bee pollen can cause allergic reactions. People allergic to pollen or bee products should avoid it. Not suitable for children under 3 years.
